Giving is most blessed and most acceptable when the donor remains completely anonymous ~ Saying by an unknown individual that clearly does not apply to anonymous commenters on blogs.
How much anonymous commenting is the blogger who calls himself rAtional nAtion doing here? He says "What a waste. of good O2. LMAO" here. Notice the misplaced period? This reminded me of another comment with a misplaced period. Here an "anonymous" commenter says "It's YOU and your ass. Faced friends who we love to hate". That's prior to a comment from (the same) anon saying, "Fuck you, Shaw, Mal-cum. Crazy Critter and the horse you rode in on".
According to an anonymous comment I deleted, "You don't know it's RN, idiot. He's got you spinning like the idiot you are". So, all this makes me wonder... Is RN posing as an Anon who says "fuck you" to his supposed friend Shaw?
Even if this theory is wrong, it may still be time to disallow anonymous comments. There was one person who said he didn't have a blog (or a blogger account) and was upset that I said I might disallow it. Is that guy still here? I think he might have gotten mad and left.
Another suspicion I have is that an Anon who comments as "The Sword of Truth" is actually a blogger known as "Truth 101". I think I remember him mentioning on his blog that he sometimes went by this nom de plume. Nothing he said though was an obvious tip-off. He offended some conservative commenters (causing one to post as "the real sword of truth")... so I think it's possible that this is the same Truth who said I was nuts.
In any case, whether or not any of my theories or suspicions have any veracity at all... I think it is quite evident that some people are playing games and being "clever" due to me allowing anonymous commenting. Given how easy it is to create a Blogger or Google+ account I've pretty much made up my mind. Anonymous commenting will not be possible here for much longer. This will solve the problem of people posting anonymously but saying they aren't the same Anon that said something else. Some annoying Anon debated with me about me "mistakenly" attributing prior anonymous comments to him.
According to this Anon "paranoia is the only excuse for your thinking I'm all these other Anons, or maybe ego makes you think there could not possibly be more than one person who thinks you are full of shit". OK then, the solution is obviously to disallow anonymous commenting. Then there will be ZERO Anons. No more "paranoia" from me wondering if one Anon is the same as another Anon - as everyone who thinks thinks I am "full of shit" will have to say so using a unique ID.
Disallowing anonymous comments will solve all these problems. Not completely, perhaps, but now people will at least have to go through the process of setting up other accounts if sock puppeting is their thing. Many will probably decide it isn't worth the effort. Or they might be too dumb to figure it out. At least it puts a small stumbling block in the path of those whose only purpose in commenting here is to make an annoyance of themselves (like the Anon I quote above... possibly RN).
The annoyers, fakers and a-holes whose purpose is to get me "spinning like the idiot [I am]" are hereby on notice. Anonymous commenting will be disallowed here as of 8/6/2013. Like I said before, creating an account you can use to comment is a simple process, and therefore not a huge imposition. And it will put a stop to (or at least reduce) comments from people who are only playing games (RN?).
Comment moderation will remain off... for now. I hate comment moderation when others use it, so I would prefer to not use it myself. But if disallowing anonymous comments does not fix (or at least put a big dent in) the problem I'm having with fakers and annoyers then I may have to use it. This step first, then I'll decide if any further steps are necessary. One thing is certain though... I'm not shutting down my blog. If that is the goal of anyone commenting here you may as well go away and not bother.
Update 9/4/2014: "The Sword of Truth" was rAtional nAtion (AKA Lester Nation, AKA Les Carpenter III), as proven here (on 8/15/2013). Truth 101 (AKA Joe Hagstrom, AKA Joe Kelly, Joe "Truth 101" Kelly, AKA Joe Truth) was not the quilty party.
