Thoughts On Phil Bredesen, Conserva-Dem Running For The TN Senate Seat (And His Taylor Swift Endorsement)

Will the Taylor Swift endorsement help? Perhaps a lot of young Taylor Swift fans will push him over the top and he will defeat the horrible Marsha Blackburn. According to Blackburn's ad, Bredesen is against building tRump's idiotic wall, which is why you should vote for her. Even though the wall (as described by tRump during the campaign) will NEVER be built (a solid unbroken contiguous barrier build of solid material i.e. not a fence or series of walls not connected to each other unbroken from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific ocean).

Bredesen is against building the wall. The commercial plays audio of Bredesen saying he doesn't think the wall is the answer. Then the audio rewinds and plays again. Because you should be SHOCKED that he would say such a thing. But only if you are a stupid trumper rube would you think this wall is a good idea.

Bredesen is smart for opposing the wall. But he is not smart for weighing in on the Kavanaugh nomination. Why say anything? But he said he'd have voted for blackout Brett. As per his campaign ads, his strategy is obviously to appeal to republican voters. Bredesen is a former Democratic governor of TN. While governor he addressed budget concerns by kicking people off Tennessee's health care program (TNcare). He also opposed the ACA.

Although this might be what he feels he needs to do in order to win an election in RED Tennessee (and he is likely correct. Still WHY say he would vote for Brett?). All the republican nominees (for the House as well as other state offices) ran ads trying to out-tRump each other (prior to the primaries). Bredesen's conserva-Dem-ness turns me off. But I suppose he is wagering that TN Democrats have little recourse. Unless TN Dems want the horrible Marsha Blackburn to win what choice do they have but vote for him? Even though he is a conserva-Dem. Like Joe Manchin (the ONLY Democrat to vote for Brett).

In a Blackburn ad, tRump (in a clip I'm guessing is from one of his ego-stroking rallies), proclaims that Bredesen will vote with the Dems and against the MAGA agenda "every time". But Phil has an ad in which he says he doesn't care where ideas come from. If tRump is for something and it's a good thing, he'll vote for it.

To which I say... what are the chances that will happen? Close to none, I'd wager. Yet Phil has to make a point of him possibly voting with and cooperating with Republicans. He also stresses that he "worked across party lines" as governor. Uninformed voters might think he is a republican... if they didn't watch any of Marsha's ads. According to Marsha, Phil is a corrupt ultra-Liberal who will raise your taxes 19 percent to pay for his healthcare plan (despite kicking people off TNcare and OPPOSING the ACA).

BTW, did you hear that the White Supremacists are upset that Swift endorsed Bredesen? Apparently they assumed that the White, blonde, blue-eyed Swift was some kind of Aryan princess. Or an "Aryan Goddess [and] Nazi Avatar of the White European People". LOL.

I’m writing this post about the upcoming midterm elections on November 6th, in which I’ll be voting in the state of Tennessee. In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent. I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives. Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway. So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. October 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the state of TN. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting! 🗳😃🌈

The American Dream According To Republicans

"life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless of social class or circumstances of birth ~ James Truslow Adams in 1931 defining the American Dream.

According to Marsha Blackburn, the gop potus nominee Donald Trump "believes In the American dream because he has lived the American dream". Apparently she's been using this line a LOT, as when I Googled for it, I got many other instances of her saying it.

The one I was looking for was her saying it at the GOP Trump-tastic Convention. I heard it while watching the news, which, because I live in Tennessee and she is a member of the House representing Tennessee's 7th congressional district, the Tennessee news covered.

According to her Wikipedia page, "Blackburn is one of three female U.S. representatives in congress who identifies as a congressman"... as opposed to a congresswoman (translation: she's an anti-woman woman). Also an idiot, as she subscribes to the myth that the ACA contains "death panels". This, despite the fact that "it had been ...widely debunked by fact-checking journalism organizations".

Oh, and she doesn't believe in climate change or evolution. She was also "named one of the Most Corrupt Members of Congress by the government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

Anyway, the American Dream, as I understand it, is having a good job that enables you to be able to pay for all the necessities in life (food, clothing, shelter, health care) and also send your kids to college, take a few vacations a year, and retire with no worries of living your old age in poverty.

Donald Trump was born on 3rd base and GOPers like Blackburn think he hit a homer. In the minds of Republicans Trump represents the "American Dream". Trump having been being born to wealthy parents and inheriting a LARGE amount of money from them.

Sure, many Americans might DREAM about this, but that all it is. A dream. Not attainable. At least the being born wealthy part. Some people work hard, and via a combination of skill and luck end up rich. But these people are in the minority. The American Dream SHOULD be something anyone can aspire to AND have at least a moderate chance of attaining.

BTW, Diane Black, a colleague of Blackburn's (in that she's a "congressman" from Tennessee) says (in a campaign commercial that I saw recently) that government shouldn't play a role in lifting people out of poverty. "Government doesn't get people out of poverty, hard work does" she says.

She must believe that the working poor just don't work hard enough. I mean, if they weren't lazy moochers expecting handouts they'd be rich and living the American Dream, right?
